Hello to all, hope you are having a great week, and able to do some quilting or making something special

I made this small quilt  which will be donated to Project Linus, and hopefully it will make someone happy, my hugs, kisses and prayers go out to these sick children.  Hope they can kick that big "C".

Yesterday, I received a sweet surprise in the mail.  My daughter #2 sent us a package with her signature cookies.  Karen makes these cookies each year for my grandson's yearly camp friends.  She makes trays and trays of them. As you can see, not much left. lol   She unwraps a chocolate kiss, wraps cookie dough around them and bakes them.  They are way too good.

Only seven more days and my daughter #1 will be here for a short visit.  Visits go by just too fast.  I can tell you for sure there will be a lot of hugs going on in this house.

Do you have these two people living in your home?  They are at my home each day.

At our quilt guild this past Monday the members were asked to participate in the BOM group. All that were interested, was to submit a block and received a one chance per entry ticket.  I made two but unfortunately my name was not drawn.  There were 14 entries. This was a sweet block, all done in pastels.

This is my work in progress (quilt to be). The pattern is called "Bowtie Party".  Pattern is taken from Jenny Doan's, Missouri Star Block Book.  I am making it in Red, White and Blue. It will be donated to the local Veterans Home in my area.  I am not a fast sewer, but it will get done. LOL

Hoping you all have have a great week and find sometime to do some quilting.

Who would believe that it is August already?  When I was young, the time for weekends would drag by so slowly to go to parties, movies, etc.  Now I blink my eyes and the weekend is here.

I finished the "Zipper Quilt" ( pattern by Janet Dolan, Missouri Star Quilt Co).  I like the way it turned out. I am thinking of making one out of blues.  This quilt, when quilted will be given to the hospice house in my area.  It was made with love and hugs to comfort a patient.

The top photo in blue is a iron caddy that I made while in San Diego and I just finished up the red one.
This is a great pattern,  When the Caddy is buttoned up it is very compact.  When you release the elastic on both side is opens up to a small ironing pad. This is ideal for taking and bringing home your iron to classes and retreats.  I am sure I will be making more before Christmas.
I will see what my quilting buddies think of this project when I go to my quilt guild on Wednesday.
Wishing you all a great day and hope you find time to make the sewing machine purr.

Hope you all are having a great morning.  Cloudy here in Maryland, no humidity and quite nice.

The photo above is a small hospice quilt that I am in the process of finishing up.  Thinking of using the polka dot fabric (to the right) for four inch borders.  This is all made from my red scrap bin.  lol, not even making a dent in the bin.  I think I will make a couple more using black and whites and blue and ?  Very easy pattern from
Jenny Dolan (Missouri quilt company).  Her pattern name for this quilt is "The Zipper Quilt".

Not too much news for the week.  Next week DH and I will be meeting some dear friends at the airport (their layover).  We haven't seen this couple for over 30 years, wow, I wonder if we will even know each other.  I'm sure it will be a great but short get together.

Until the next time....... smile and be happy.....

Shortly after I got home from San Diego, DH and I received this great gift from my DD Sandi.  This one replaced the worn out, letters missing, faded etc.  We really like the sign and if you look closely you will see the red crabs on each side.  I guess we need to paint the pole now, (LOL).  Sandra really knows how do pick them just right.

I have been working on making medium sized yoyo's.  Good craft to do while watching TV.  The yoyo's will be used to make Christmas tree wall hangings.  I will be donating a couple of the wall hanging to the senior center.  Hopefully I can get a couple done for the hospice house as well.
.

I took a day off for a senior trip to a Delaware  Casino.  Two filled buses left at 6:45 am and returned about 7:00 pm the same day. About 100 seniors went.  We had a blast and I did come home with a little more than I went with.

I am working on a red and white scrappy quilt (trying to use up some scraps).  the pattern name is "The Zipper Quilt"  cute, easy to sew up.  I will include photos on my next blog.

Going to play Bingo after church today, wish me luck.  Until ???

Hi, this is a test...  My grandson was visiting me this week and he helped me get out a rut.  I was unable to post photos on my blog .  Austin was a super helper.  He worked hard to get me straighten out.  I will be posting again soon.  He did a fantastic job.  This is an older photo, note,,,,,, I don't wear glasses anymore. Plus, lol, I have all white hair now.LOL.

Last day in San Diego, we went to Veijas Casino.  Had another super good time.  I had way too many cards to dab, 24 cards was way too much for me.  Got close but as they say it " no cigar  ".  After bingo we went into play a few slots, no luck there either.  But just being with San was the best.  Now I have to wait another three months for her hugs.

Sunday night was Sandra's DH birthday, Sandra and I took him to his favorite pub and eatery, Tiger Tiger.  I had the best pulled pork sandwich that I have ever tasted.  I totally understand why he enjoys that pub.  The only thing that I would have to get use to is the volume of noise. LOL.

Design Wall Monday, June 23, 2014

At the retreat this past week, I put together a Project Linus quilt.  The above is the front and below I tried to pull in the quilting design of cats and hearts.  Really turned out cute and it will make some child very happy.

The back of the quilt has cats, and it fits just perfect with the colors that went into the quilt.

I also made the pink quilt, taken from a pattern called "LAGOON" I used pinks and purples instead of blues, so I will have to re-name it.  I will be leaving it here to be quilted and Sandra will send it to me when completed.  I had a super fun loving time being here in San Diego with my daughter and her DH.  They have treated me to EVERYTHING and treated me like royalty  It will be another three months (way to long) before we can share hugs and kisses again.

So until the next, have a great week.  See other great quilting projects at Patchwork Times.

Preparing a kit for all the fabrics I need to take to a quilt retreat with my daughter and 11 other ladies.
We leave on Thursday morning and return on Sunday afternoon. My project is called "LAGOON" designed by The Quilting Hen. Quilt will measure 61" x 64".  Fabrics will be pinks and raspberry colors.  I will be showing you more as time comes.

This weekend, my daughter took me to the San Diego Fair.  Had a great time, the weather was very hot.  Loads of people and food vendors everywhere.  The above photo are French fries on a stick, sprinkled with sea salt. Very good, we shared a stick of them.
Sandra tried bacon wrapped Jalapeno peppers. No thanks I let her have that treat.

Also a fair isn't a fair without a pig race, big laughs and very entertaining.

Well, I will be sending news from our retreat.  Have a great week. Take time to see other projects at Patchwork Times.

Enjoying an evening out to dinner.  We went to Bull's Smokin BBQ.  The ribs and chicken were so darn good.  Fortunately I had help eating my ribs.  The meat just fell off the bones.  We watched the Hockey Finals as we ate.  Great place and would highly recommend  eating at this restaurant.  Sandra  and DH sure know the places to go.  I will be blogging again soon.  We go on our quilting retreat this Thursday, I will have a lot to talk about and hopefully some good photos.

Monday June 9, 2014

Welcome to the land of the sun!  I arrived on Thursday, exhausted after a  long  flight.  It was a welcome sight to be hugged by my lovely daughter Sandra.
We have been busy with setting up sewing projects.  I am a very slow sewer and Sandra is almost finished with hers.  Needless to say, she sews circles around me.

Had a weekend free of cooking, Tim (SIL) took us out for our meals,  This city is loaded with restaurants, it amazes me how many choices and places to eat.

On Friday, I saw my first viewing of a Road Runner.  Often heard of them but never saw one.  They are much larger than I expected.  The bird is very attentive and walks very proudly.  Sandra and I even got a front row seat to see him pick up a snail and crack the shell and then eat it.  Very interesting.

Looking forward to Tuesday evening when Sandra reveals her part of the Whisper Challenge at her quilt guild.  I have never seen this challenge and it will be interesting to see how this works.  I hope to take photos then show them all on my blog.  (if I remember to take photos, lol)

Until the next, have a happy, healthy and safe week.

Thursday March 20, 2014

Went to join my quilting friends at a retreat yesterday.  Had a great time.  Our quilt guild has so many talented quilters.  Members were making a large variety of items.  Pillow cases, jewelry, table runners, baby quilts, beautiful hand applique quilts and so much more.   Friend just returned from a visit in Florida and brought me a nice tote bag, I sure have plenty to stuff in the bag.

I was able to teach a class on making the cutest little drawstring pouch, made from two fat quarters, and 1 3/4 yards of cording used for draw strings.  Seems like everyone was excited to make them.  I will sometime in the future send a photo, but right now my ability to upload photos has a problem.
Our luncheon was pot luck and yummy, yummy, everything was so delicious.  We went back to sewing and gabbing until 4:00.  Great day, great friends.

Hope your week end will be with needle and thread.   Betty

Top of the morning to you all.  Woke up to more snow, ugh, kinda sick of seeing all that white stuff.  Looking forward to seeing some flowers and green grass.

Saturday afternoon, my daughter drove down from Virginia and spent the afternoon and evening with us.  It was so nice to have her here.  Early evening we went to a church hall for an evening of Bingo.  The Jackpot was at $3,400.00.  We both had it spent and was waiting for the victory, when we heard a young boy (13 yrs old) yell B I N G O.  So happy for him and family.  Mother cried with happiness, told all that she was going to use it for her son's tuition, come September.  Well, each person there had a reason to win, but I think it went to the right winner.  I have a photo, but it seems that this site is having problems accepting photos.  I will have to check it out.

I have not been very active lately, but hope (once again) to change that.  My DD is soooooo active that she keeps reminding me to post, post.  So I am going to give it a try and hope that my photo problems will soon be solved.

Have a great day, enjoy your ham and cabbage, (Yummy)
