Hi to all!  Hope everyone is enjoying these beautiful days of early fall?  It certainly is beautiful here in Maryland.
I am posting a couple of charity quilts.  I hope they give a lot of hugs, kisses and support.

The pink print above will be given to Project Linus,
I enjoy making quilts for this organization.  The children
love receiving something that is their own to hug and have comfort.

The patriotic quilt will be donated to the Women's wing of
the Maryland Veterans Home.  I don't know the person that
receives this, but I again hope it will bring comfort to her as well.

I have been super busy sewing purses for customers as well as the Christmas Craft  Fair to be held at the Hollywood Fire House on the 17th of November.  Yes, Christmas is just around the corner. I am sure that all my quilting friends are busy as well.
Next week I will be one happy Mother, my daughter will be coming from San Diego for a delightful visit.  I just never get enough time with her.  My son and daughter-in-law will also be visiting us from Tampa.  We will all get together for my youngest daughter's 50th birthday, plus my oldest daughter's birthday is two days before .  This will be one proud  mother.
Keep your hands stitching.

Good Morning to all.  I had a very friendly telephone call today, I was
asked to put a couple of photos of my bags that I make on my blog.  I will take a
a few more photos later and add to this blog.

The two above bags are the large bags, I will photo the smaller bag later this
afternoon.  I make Redskins bags in small and large, the small is two inches
smaller all around.  I can make them in Burgundy, gold, or black with the
Redskin fabric. Sorry, no zippers can be added because of the ties on the side.
The ties are sewn on for the purse to expand.  Bags are quilted.  I have a firm
loose inside bottom to make the bag firm, it can be taken out and the
bag can be washed if necessary.  Lots of pockets. On the front of the purse the
pocket has a contrast band, (which is optional)

The two small bags in the top photo could be made in Redskins fabric, they are small
and have a snap ball handle, two small pockets inside and a firm bottom.

Thank you for asking about my bags.

Oh My, it is sure hot here in Maryland, we have had 90' to 100' and no change in site.  Good time to catch up on some sewing.  I am putting together this charity quilt for the Hospice House in our area.  I don't have any of the blocks sewn together.  Need a larger display wall, lol.  I am not a fast sewer, but will get this together this week. It will end up with 12 blocks, all taken (but 2 squares) from my stash.  I will post my finished photo on my next blog.

While I was on Facebook, my eye caught this quick and easy cheese coffeecake.  DH liked it and the recipe is a keeper. The recipe uses two (2) rolls of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls, cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, butter and cinnamon.

Hope you all have lots of time to stitch, I enjoy seeing all your beautiful quilts.  Have a great week.

Good Morning, a new day, a new week, and a new month.

I just finished this special order for a customer, her request was black and white.  It turned out really nice, I will be seeing her on  Thursday. I enjoy making bags, I have about 14 bags ready for the Christmas Bazaar in early December.

I took my ice cream quilt to be quilted, I will bind it and it will then be off to Moore, Oklahoma. See photo in last weeks blog.

I have some items to be cut out for the coming week to sew.  I have a Birthday gift for the middle of July, and would like to start on a new quilt. I hope I can sit and sew, without interruptions. (LOL)

Have a super week and hope it is full of stitches.

Hope all my readers are having a good day.  My DD Sandi and myself are making quilts to send to Moore, Oklahoma for the 1st/2nd graders for the opening of their new school.  The school will  celebrate the first day back with an ice cream social.  This was a call for all quilters to make and donate a ice cream quilt.  I hope this quilt will wrap around a student with many hugs.

Pattern was publish in the Jan/Feb 2006 Quiltmaker Magazine

Hello All I Am Back!

It has been a long slow road, but here I go. I have had some health issues, and hopefully I have all things in control.  I hope to back once a week again
I went to a mini class at a great Quilting Store near my home.  I took a class on making these Snap Frame Handbags.  Had a good time and a great teacher.  Actually they are so easy that you want to keep on making them.  The handles are the most expensive item, maybe I can find them cheaper on line.

I had a special order for two bags made alike.  This isn't my favorite thing to do, but that is what the customer wanted.  I try not to make two bags of the same material. The customer was thrilled and pleased.  This pattern is a favorite and most requested of all my bags.

The President of our quilt guild  made a challenge for the year called.  "What my home means to me?
I was always hearing that my home is my castle and that is where I got my idea from. The wall hanging couldn't be any larger than 24 x 24 inches and must contain the white fabric given to us.  I was lucky and was rewarded  3rd place.  I looked high and low for a pieced castle and had no luck.  While talking to my DD, she found one that was paper pieced.  OMG that was more of a challenge than the project.  I did a few but really got mixed up and trying to remember doing the piecing in reverse was a trying experience.  Thank God for telephones.  Sandi (DD) worked with me and helped me finish this project.

Hope you all have a super week,  Take a look at all the beautiful quilts mentioned on the blogs at the right, the quilting community is full of great people and lots of talent.

Been a long time since my last post.  I have had a few medical problems to deal with. All is well now.  Just have to get use to some new meds.

I have been busy on my sewing machine doing  HST.  I joined a swap that my DD Sandi is chairing.  126 HST for a group of 19 participants.  It went by quickly and using a new ruler called "Bloc Loc" it went so smoothly   I don't think I will ever be without it if I need to make anymore HST,  I got the package of finished squares in the mail this morning.  I know that I will be early for this one.  Deadline for this swap is late June. Hip, hip, hooray!
I even got a package off to my young granddaughter, goodies and a new dress, pink of course.

Hope to be more on the ball in writing on my blog page, until the next have a lovely weekend.

If you have a minute, please leave me a comment, I will get back with you.
Have a great week.

I had a good friend ask me to make her a handbag with cat fabric.  I didn't have any large pieces of cats in my stash so my daughter Sandra sent me about three pieces to choose from.  Well, I finished two bags as pictured above.  I will be seeing my friend tonight, which bag will she choose?  I will let you know in my next blog.  Have a great Saturday.

Saturday March 30, 2013

Went to a Super Bingo this past Saturday at our local Church. Thankfully they had a great crowd.  My daughter and I met up with our good friends.  I have been in a losing rut and complained that I needed a lift.  Well, my friend Violet Ann gave me a new good luck piece.  "Hermit"  after a good laugh and the start of another game, believe me, I yelled Bingo.  Another good laugh we had and I shall keep him with me now at my Bingo games.

My daughter Karen brought me these lovely flowers for Easter, they are beautiful. She also joined us gals and she too got lucky yelling Bingo.  Thank you Karen for thinking about me.

Wishing you all a Blessed Easter

This is why I didn't get on the scale this morning.  After a large Church Seafood Dinner this past Sunday.

Our Church has two dinners that we plan for the whole community, we have one in the spring and one in the fall.  We had our spring dinner this past Sunday and we were so busy, I really don't know where everyone came from.  This dinner is advertised as a Seafood dinner.  We served, steamed shrimp, crab balls, oysters, chicken, boiled potatoes, string beans, rolls and jello.  The hours of the dinner is 12:00 to 4:00.  Well, we had such a long line of people that we opened up early 11:00 and we were sold out of food by 2:30.
We also have a craft table, religious items table, raffle and our ever popular bake table.  Helen and I co-chair the bake table with donations from the Parish and friends. Both Helen and myself out did ourselves baking items.  We set a new record in sales this year, it is unbelievable the amount we collected.  I want to thank everyone who donated and baked "goodies"  the bake table was a true success.  The photo below is my donation to the table.

I want to thank my daughter, Karen for all the hard and tiring work that she did for us (oh, those young legs).  She drove down from Fairfax Va. to help us, Thanks again, Karen

On Thursday night of last week a group of ladies had girls night out.  Once a month (sometimes twice), five or six of us get together and have a game night.  Top photo is "Mexican Train", we usually start with this game, for it takes the longest.  Bottom photo is a card game called "Sixes"  we (just for the fun of it) play with extra large cards. Then we play "Phase 10", and another card game called "31" we finish the night off with "Poker"  We play nothing serious, so if a mistake is made, we help each other.  We break for a meal (depending on when we start) and then we are back at it.  These are   the nicest ladies and group of friends one can have..

I made the above hat yesterday.  It was my first attempt making a hat (lol).  It actually turned out very good.  A request was made at our last quilt guild meeting for hats to be given to patients who have lost their hair.  SOoooooo I decided to give it a try.  I hope I can make a 1/2 doz to turn into our next meeting in April.

I hope the Luck of the Irish will be with you all today.
Back with you within the week.

Monday 11, 2013

I made this pie for a dear friend of many years.  I hope her family enjoyed it as well as I did making it.  My love of making pies and goodies has been for many years.

Soon we will be having our Church Spring dinner at our church.  There will be many, many baked items donated to this table.  I will take and send photos after the 24th of this month, we always have a huge crowd attending this Church function.  Wish us good weather.

Tonight is one of two of my quilt guild meetings.  It will be good to see all my quilting buddies, I missed the meeting in February.  I was in San Diego with one of my beautiful daughters, and what a great time we had.

This past weekend I had a great visit with my youngest
granddaughter, hadn't seen her in a while and my did she ever grow.  She is five years old, (going on twenty).and is one of three joys of my life.  Sorry to say, she got sick with a cough, fever and a couple of visits to the bathroom.  Called her yesterday and is some better. Hope she kicks the bug real fast.

Until the next visit, have a great week and keep your hands busy with your favorite hobby.

Friday, March 8, 2013

This little clip was taken from Bonnie Hunter's blog.  It is the pits when you are sewing and the darn bobbin runs out.

I had about eight orphan blocks from a quilt that I started a long time ago.  I was going to put them in a box and give them away, when I came across some of the blue and a small amount of a border print that I used in another project.  Gave it a try and voila, a quilt was born.  I will give this quilt to a group know as Project Linus. It is a group of quilters that sew quilts for children dealing with sickness, abuse, losing parents, etc.  I make many quilts for this group. These quilts are made with lots of love and hopefully the person receiving the quilt will be wrapped with lots of love and hugs.

The big snow storm missed us, terrible day though, rain and heavy winds, but no snow.  I didn't miss it.

I hope you enjoy my blog and make a comment at the bottom of the page. Have a great weekend.

Monday March 4, 2013

I made these two hand bags, finishing them up before the week end.. I have quite a few different teams made, so fun to make.  I enjoy making handbags, purses and totes, along with my quilts.
The insides are full of pockets.  I cover a piece of light weight wood for the shaping of the bottom and insert it between the lining and the outer shell.  When the covered bottom is removed it is completely washable. Great bag and it even holds my kindle, plus lots of pockets.

Our area here in Southern Maryland is expecting a big snow storm starting tomorrow evening.  I know where I will be, right here in my sewing room.  I don't drive in snow.  Possibly early tomorrow I will have to get extra milk and some bread.  Hope there isn't too much snow and it goes away quickly.

I will be sending another blog later in the week.  Take care and keep your hands busy doing some sewing.

Sunday Sale! March 3, 2013

Blast Off

A good day to you all.  The sun has finally come out, however it is cold as a son of a gun.  It is amazing how the sun can put smiles on your face.

I pieced the above quilt and got lucky, someone saw it and asked to purchase it.  So, I sent it off to its new owner in California.  Sure makes one happy that they can appreciate the work and love that is sewn into a quilt.

Last night I went with my three friends to play Bingo at the local church.  I sure am on a "no win" time of my life right now.  My one friend JJ won $300.00.  Hope my next Bingo night will be a success.

Well, off to visit my sewing maching, see you on my next post.  Have a great day, turn your scraps into keepsakes.

Monday, February 18 Back in Maryland

Leaving my daughter so far away makes me very sad.  I hope our visits can be more frequent in the future.  The above photo was taken the night before I left San Diego.  DH picked me up at the Air port in Washington DC, we stopped at Outback restaurant for a great dinner and was home by 8:00 PM.

I have been catching up on my activities around the house and being with my friends.  I am very lucky that I have a husband who is neat and he kept the house cleaned, no dishes in the sick, beds made, clothes put away.  It made coming home with a happy smile,.  I am sure he would have done more if he hadn't been healing from a broken ankle.

This is my first post without my DD looking over my shoulder to check me out if I am doing this right.  I am sure she will let me know if I have done something wrong.

Thursday I will finally get around to getting my hair cut, three weeks it grew out of control.  Friday, I am going to spend a day out with my friends playing Bingo and hitting some slots, I will let you know if I get lucky.

Old Town Mexican Cafe, February 10

On our way to the Old Town Mexican Cafe, we passed this beautiful Mormon Church (building).  We were driving by and attempted to catch the beauty of this building.  Not nearly a good photo as seeing it out right.  As you can see the dash board was even captured.

OOOps This was another that I had lost and couldn't find.  Daughter and DH and myself  went to eat dinner and enjoy  Great Mexican food, this was  another busy place.  I think I needed to be rolled home, so filling.

Phil's BBQ, February 9

A big ooops, I couldn't find these photos, then I posted on the 12th and  I found them.  We had dinner one evening at Phil's BBQ.  This had to be the best BBQ that I ever tasted.  In fact the line to be served wrapped around a block.  This restaurant was printed in the newspaper as great BBQ and Cole slaw,  and the place took off.  I have no idea how many ribs they must cook, but wow, they were great..  Thanks to my DH for taking me there and proving that he was right, that they are the best.  Yummy......

So Sorry, my vacation is over Feb 11

Well all good things must end.  My trip to visit my Daughter Sandra in San Diego was a great three weeks.  Too bad so many miles separate us.  Give anything to have my family in my home state.  We did so many things and we kept very busy.  We even got to take in a movie " Silver Lining Playbook", if you get a chance, go see it and enjoy.  We ate out at a large variety of restaurants, in fact a large amount of food was consumed. lol

I was able to greet a couple of DD friends and catch up on their families as well,.  The time we had together will not be forgotten.

I did come home with a couple of UFO's how nice it would have been if we were able to complete them together.

Now I have to let my mind and body catch up with each other, three hours different in time, makes it slow getting back to normal.

My next blog will have a little more things to chat about, until then, keep your hands busy, doing the things you love.

Leave a comment, always so great to hear from you  At the bottom of my blog is two words, No Comment or a number of comments.  Click on thoese two words and it will allow you to make a comment.  Thanks and always, take care of yourself.

Fun Day at the Casino, February 8

What a great fun day we had yesterday, DD is always busy trying to make me happy.  Left early and she drove about an hour up into the mountains to a place called Alpine, Ca.  It was an Indian Reservation called VIEJAS CASINO.  After trying to figure out the routine, we finally settled in to play a couple of hours of Bingo.  Many games that I was not familiar to playing.  As usual, close but no cigar.  DD did win $25.00 on a door prize.

After coming home, we picked up DD's Husband and went to eat dinner.  We went to Karl Straus Brewery.  It was a cool evening, but so enjoyable.  I don't drink beer, but I did sample a shot of light beer. lol, not too bad.  It was a super day.

PM Shopping Trip on Thursday, February 7

After our delightful lunch, Daughter Sandra and I went to a shopping mall in Escondido. Went to a variety of stores (mostly looking).  Bought a pair of Easy Spirit shoes, shoe store was closing so I got a great sale.  JCP, bought some socks and a couple of other things.  It sure was a big store, nothing like the one where I live.  Proceeded on our way, we came upon a three floor Target store.  Never seen anything like the escalator.  As you can see in the above photos it has an extra traveling stair on the side of the main stairs.  You put your shopping cart in the space next to you and it travels up to the next floor with you, absolutely awesome. Had to use it three time it was so neat.  The mall even had a bowling alley in it and a trackless train for kids that traveled the mall.  Wow, this country gal seen it all.

Live from San Diego Lunchtime, February 7

Daughter San and I had our lunch at the Elephant Bar Restaurant in Rancho Bernardo. We caught up with a long time friend Bonnie and enjoyed a super lunch, sure was nice catching up with all her news.

Live from San Diego! February 7

This is my first blog post!  My daughter helped me get going...boy do I have lots to learn!  I hope to share bits and pieces of my hobbies in coming days.  Love it if you'd leave a comment when you visit so that I know you've been here.  Comments that I've seen on my daughters blog (kwiltnkats) are so fun to read.
Craftsy Block of the Month - March 2012
While visiting my daughter in San Diego I was able to finish this quilt.  It is a design from Craftsy called Broken Spider Web.  Bonnie Hunter also has this design "Bonnie Style" on her website as a free pattern.

My visit is quickly coming to an end :(!  I'll post again soon...
